Two arrested for stealing diesel from Transnet pipeline

A group of suspects were caught in the act while stealing diesel from the Delmas Transnet operations and pumping it into a waiting haulier.

According to Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi of the Hawks, two men were arrested after Transnet security guards spotted a diesel tanker with eight suspects next to it. The men then ran off into different directions, but guards managed to arrest  two suspects, one of whom was the alleged driver of the fuel tanker.

A search of the area yielded no further results for the security guards, but by this time, they were joined by the Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, Delmas SAPS, Witbank SAPS and the Flying Squad.

A  twenty thousand-liter diesel tanker was seized as well as two small generators. One was inside the truck while the other one was used to siphon the diesel from the pipeline into the vehicle.

The generator used to siphon diesel from the pipeline.

The suspects, aged between 21 and 28, are expected to appear before the Delmas Magistrate Court on Monday (today) on charges of diesel theft and malicious damage to property. SAPS investigation is ongoing and more arrest cannot be ruled out.
