Tourism CEO and R98 million

It is a particularly bad day for government on many fronts.

NewsHorn believes in reporting good news, but is battling on this Monday. With all the money lost to shady deals and corruption in two departments, so many more poor people could have had homes.

SA Tourism and the Department of Tourism both received negative audit reports. Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane revealed this in a statement to the media. She took over from Derek Hanekom earlier this year.

She cited an unidentified amount of fruitless and wasteful expenditure related to Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) projects within the department as the main reason behind the qualified audit. But AND HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS – The department  managed to achieve above 80% for performance. (Can someone please explain this to me? – Ed)

The national tourism agency saw its CEO Sisa Ntshona being put on “pre-cautionary suspension” in April.
