Those traveling from Beira to Machipanda would from December 1 pay a toll charge.
This would be part of a Road Fund to continuously upgrade the EN6 which is in a poor state as a result of heavy traffic.
The EN6 over 287 kilometres should have been finished end of March this year, but due to lack of funding and the process of relocating families and shops, had taken much longer.
The road had been financed by the China Export and Import Bank and the Mozambican government and cost USD 410 million to build. Three toll booths would ensure capital for upgrades. These tolls would be erected in Sofala at Dondo and Nhamtanda and a third in Manica (Vanduzi).
