In order to address the downward spiral of tourism to the country and Mpumalanga, a call to action meeting and intervention of tourism stakeholders by the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Commerce (KLCBT) will be held tomorrow. After the meeting, a high level engagement has already been arranged with the Minister of Tourism who will visit the region.
Although international arrivals are up by 12%, it is from neighbouring countries, mainly visits to family and friends, adding no noteworthy financial income. The arrivals from traditional high-spending tourism markets from Europe and USA, have decreased sharply. Domestic arrivals (people from South Africa) is down by 70,2%!!
The collapse between private and public sectors is seen as the main problem and the KLCBT will propose interventions and plans to address the situation in the province.
All business owners in the tourism industry are urged to attend the meeting on Friday, August 2, from 10h00-12h00 at Church Unlimited, just outside Nelspruit on the R40 leading to Barberton.
