South African will promote fresh produce at Asia Expo

A group of twenty-two South African companies, led by the Department of Trade and Industry  (dti) will fly to Hong Kong this weekend to promote local fresh produce and services at  Fruit Logistica Asia, a trade show in Hong Kong from 4-6 September 2019.

This annual trade show focuses on fresh, unprocessed fruit and vegetables and the related value chain, offering an opportunity to establish new business contacts. Global key players attend this event.

The Deputy Minister of dti, Nomalungelo Gina, said the participation of the SA companies forms part of the department’s Export Promotion Strategy, targeting high growth export markets to support the country’s fresh produce sector.

The composition of the business delegation  included small, micro and medium enterprises. The SA expo will specifically focus on fresh, unprocessed fruits and vegetables, fresh convenience products, dried fruit, nuts, herbs and spices, organic products, as well as machinery.

Said Gina, “We are confident that our presence at Fruit Logistica will expose our companies to a host of export and investment opportunities to grow their profits and in turn, cement the country as a credible exporter of fresh produce.”  The SA expo attracted a substantial amount of trade leads in the past.
