Mashego Lebone (21),the new Miss Marite Market in Bushbuckridge (BBR), promised to serve the community by highlighting teenage pregnancy, abuse of substance abuse and the “dating of old men in exchange of money,” during her reign.

Organiser of the event, Locracia Mkhabela from Esther Modelling Agency, said the reason for the pageant was too bring the people of Marite together and to give the young talent a platform to showcase their beauty and brains. The beauty contests also serve to create a sense of community and afford young ladies an opportunity to address social ills. Said Mkhabela  “I was happy to see the community attending to support the event. Local artists, poetry and dancers got a chance to showcase their talents. I believe that after the event people will change their perceptions about our area since its known as criminals den.” She said

Even the princesses said that they will use this platform to ensure that Marite as a whole becomes a better place and break stereotypes associated with it, becoming influencers and assisting discouraged youngsters to get their lives back on track.

BBR mayor, Sylvia Nxumalo, once again pleaded with the youth of Marite to refrain from crime and start their own businesses instead of waiting for handouts. She also told school children to do well as they are the future of the region. The event was sponsored by Delvinal Decorations, Baru-Baru, Tshepo Big T, and Dan Matsane.
