More than 129 veld, forest fires recorded in Mpumalanga

  The Department of Environment, Forestries and Fisheries, Working on Fire (WOF) firefighters in Mpumalanga, working with various Fire Protection Associations (FPA’s), suppressed more than 129 veld and forest fires last month, WOF spokesperson Amanda Mthembu said in a statement. Mthembu said on July 19 the firefighter’s suppressed 18 fires in that day alone, while the fires recorded on the day spread throughout the province. Drowning deaths in Mpumalanga a cause for concern 

DROWNING deaths in Mpumalanga has skyrocketed says the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Mandla Msibi. Several fatalities have been reported in the province that happened in rivers and dams and according to statistics released by COGTA, in July alone, five lives were lost. One drowning took place in Vosman, three in a dam in Emalahleni and one in a river in Alkmaar outside Mbombela. Learner stabbed at Nelspruit Private College

POLICE in Mpumalanga are investigating a case in which an18- year-old learner was stabbed by another learner at the Nelspruit Private College last week. According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, the learner was with a friend when he went to the bathroom. Two young men burnt to death

Two young men aged  18 and 21 died in a house fire at Pine Ridge near Witbank, on Monday. According to eye witnesses  there was a power outage for a short while and when it (power) came back on, they saw smoke and fire coming out of the house. Several community members rushed to the house in attempt to extinguish the fire and managed to rescue the mother but the strong blaze unfortunately claimed the lives of the young men who were trapped inside.
